The governor of Illinois has expressed optimism that the state might soon move out of Tier 3 lockdown, which means the casinos in the state are likely to be allowed to once again open their doors.. Governor J.B. Pritzker said Illinois’ 11 regions might begin easing restrictions on 15 January, as long as the metrics support it. Four of Illinois’ 10 casinos reside in one of those regions. They are: Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria (Region 2) Jumer’s Casino & Hotel (Region 2) Hollywood Casino Joliet (Region 7) Harrah’s Joliet (Region 7) This is not final as of this writing. But if the numbers hold, these four casinos should have the green light to reopen on Friday. The Illinois Gaming Board has provided details on the reopening rules. Casinos in both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 regions may only be open from 8am until 11pm daily. The occupancy level for each venue is a strict 25%. Food and beverage service are not allowed indoors. Casinos can provide outdoor service, as well as carryout and curbside. In the period between March and June, casinos raked in $943 million or a 30% decline year-over-year. Overall, the state collected 13.4% less tax or $1.2 billion for the last fiscal year which ended on June 2020.
